I see A5 is resorting to one sided propaganda again? LOL

Why not look at the entire economy instead of just imports and exports?

Naw, that would require admitting that other sectors including manufacturing also play an important role in our prosperity.

It's more of the same lame conservative argument that Albertans are the only ones who work hard and contribute to the country. Everyone else is just lazy if they don't wear boots! LOL

Some Albertans seem to think because they were lucky to be sitting on a pile of pile of oil and gas that somehow they are better and smarter than everyone else?

Yup oil and gas are very important, but that importance is about to decline in a lower carbon emission future and that scares the petro elite.

Perhaps you should have read the graph before spouting off about something you clearly have no idea about, as usual.

Manufacturing is included in the graph. And with the exception of aircraft and parts, all other manufacturing is a net loss, we import more than we export. Thanks in no small part to a prohibitive tax and regulatory environment.

So, lets follow your advice and look at the entire economy.

Since Agstar liked your post, I'll use you two as the example.
How does the rest of the economy contribute to our net exports, which is the only way money can come into the country to increase wealth and pay for government services?
If Agstar installs your Chinese solar panels, and you provide agstar with hairdressing services to maintain his purple hairdo, and he sells you a foreign made electric car made with materials almost 100% processed and manufactured in China etc., then you and agstar fly to the nearest BLM riot to destroy some property, and agstar buys you some buttless chaps to wear to the pride parade, etc. How do any of these activities contribute to our trade surplus?

How do you propose to fund your socialist utopia without the top 4 primary industries, which provide virtually all of our net exports?
Do you know what a trade surplus is? A trade defecit?
Where would we get the capital to buy your imported Chinese made solar panels, if Canada didn't export oil/gas, minerals, forest products and agricultural products?

This post just exemplifies the essence of the thread title. The level of gross ignorance of economics displayed by Chuck, would be funny if it was just him, but it is shared by a large segment of the population, and they vote accordingly, that is truly sad.

A lot of young liberal voters had a better understanding of grams and balancing the scale than dollars and balancing a budget.
They'll vote for the grams teacher every time.

And they're also more concerned about balancing The spoils of other people's hard work, and they are about balancing workload amongst each other.
For a great example, just see the resentment and jealousy indicated in Chuck's post above.
