There is a lot of pressure on the Province to twin the highway to Ft. McMurray after the tragic accident of ten days ago.
Highway 43 is in the final stages of being twinned from Whitecourt to Edmonton.
Yet there are numerous highways that are busy, have a significant amount of industry and agriculture traffic and don't even have paved shoulders. Highway 22 north from Highway 16 to Highway 43 is a case in point.
Traffic counts are utilized to decide which highways merit twinning, which bridges should be widened etc. I am not too sure that politics doesn't enter into the equation as well. It seems as though some MLA's are more successful than others in getting major highway projects in their constituency.
Any comments ?
