Like a dog...returning to its own vomit!

It is amazing to watch, the Liberal voters of Ontario swallowing Martin's lies, and maybe voting themselves into the unemployment lines. Martin returns to his vile anti-Americanism like a Dog always returns to his own vomit.---Bashing our southern neighbours might have dire consequences

    By Paul Jackson

The contemptuous tone taken by Liberal leader Paul Martin in his anti-American ranting unveils a side of our supposed prime minister that's been previously shielded to most voters.

It is he will do anything -- no matter how low, no matter how politically unethical, no matter how dangerous -- to try to score points and eke out extra seats in the House of Commons come voting day Jan. 23.

His shrill and silly accusations against President George W. Bush's administration may make for good theatre with the uniformed, but they diminish both our short-term and long- term relationship with Washington.

Has no one wondered why it took so long to solve the ban on our packaged beef and then live cattle destined for the U.S?

Brian Mulroney -- or Preston Manning, Stockwell Day or Stephen Harper -- would have solved it with a phone call.

Has no one wondered why the softwood lumber dispute drags on year-after-year?

Mulroney -- or Manning, Day or Harper -- again would have solved it with a snap of the fingers.

Has no one wondered why Martin can't get his foot in the door of the Oval Office at the White House to push Canada's case on any number of issues?

Mulroney -- or Manning, Day or Harper -- would get the nod from the Bush administration on just about every concern the mind could conjure up on Canadian-American relations.

But Martin's irresponsible and reckless treatment of Bush has brought the blinds down on the Liberal government.

The beef and softwood lumber disputes alone cost Canadian producers billions of dollars.

All due to Martin's vanity, obstinacy and childish bellowing.

I can't say I've ever had too much time for Liberal strategist Warren Kinsella -- except to admit somewhat negatively to his cleverness in slurring Conservative opponents -- but even he condemns Martin's "shameless pandering" to anti-American types.

So now I somewhat admire Kinsella for something more positive: He knows just what Martin is up to, and why, and he sees the inherent danger in it.

Martin sneakily condemns U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins for allegedly interfering in Canadian politics when he himself stood on a stage a week ago with ex-president Bill Clinton and basked in this adulterer's supposed vote-getting power.

Both men were in Montreal for the UN's climate change conference, and Martin took the occasion to publicly chastise Bush for not supporting the Kyoto pact.

That said, Conservative Senator Hugh Segal -- an old friend, by the way -- praised Wilkins for refusing to succumb to Martin's poisonous bait and be drawn into the campaign.

Here, let's recall when Jean Chretien's nephew, Raymond Chretien, was Canadian ambassador to Washington, he openly said the Liberal government favoured a Democratic victory by Al Gore to a Republican win with Bush in 2000.

Wasn't this interfering in U.S. politics?

During the 2004 presidential campaign, any number of Liberal senators ran around with John Kerry campaign buttons on their lapels and cabinet ministers such as Environment Minister Stephane Dion and Human Resources Minister Joe Volpe were walking around publicly endorsing Kerry.

What a charade Martin has going.

It's like the one he put on when, right to the last minute, he pretended to the Bush administration that Canada would join the U.S. missile defence shield, then at the last moment, switched positions.

It was a knife in the back to Bush.

The folly of Martin's tactics and hypocrisy is Canada benefits far more from its relationship with the U.S. than does the U.S.

The population and economy of California alone is larger than the entire population and economic weight of all Canada.

More than 83% of our exports go to the U.S. and 50% of all our jobs either directly or indirectly depend on those exports.

Those exports and jobs were safeguarded by Mulroney who convinced presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush to go against protectionist forces in the U.S. Congress.

Without this protection, we'd be an economic wasteland.

Yet, Martin is prepared to jeopardize these exports and jobs for his own ambition.

If Martin's Liberals are re-elected again, Canadians will pay for this dubious and underhanded behaviour.

Unlike in the Mulroney years, there'll be no favours given us.

    Why should there be?

Check out smalldeadanimals.com and see the latest post. If you believe what they are saying, it looks very much like this anti-american push over the last 2 weeks has been carefully planned for a long time. Very low.

Well they definitely have a different mindset down east? You know: Everything Canadian is good, everything American is bad?
Where the hell were the easterners when we were crying for expertise and financing to establish the oil fields? Fact is without American money and know how it wouldn't have happened!
Personally I find it very offensive that this bum from Quebec waves his little maple leaf flag and does everything in his power to ruin the relationship we have developed with the US? He does everything in his power to destroy our prosperity for the sake of a few votes from the "nationalists" down east! Now if I was being fed off the government tit I might be all for that but the fact is this: My beef goes to the US. My barley goes into hogs and cattle that goes to the US. My labor and services go to an industry that is almost totally reliant on the US. My oil and gas go to the US.
Maybe I am too radical or something, but the fact is I really couldn't care how Ottawa or Toronto or Montreal are coping...because my prosperity and my future lie with the USA! They pay my bills. I don't need some French politician trying to screw up my life and my childrens lives!
Go for it Paul. Give it your best shot. I hope you win a majority and then...maybe some people will start to wake up and we'll get the hell out of here!

Some of you might just remember a point I raised when we were sweating and debating the BSE issue at length. I wrote that if the BSE issue were to raise a ground swell of anti-Americanism in western canada...THAT would bring nothing but pleasure to the likes of Jean Creiten and his ilk...he would rub his hands together in glee.
          Saddly some have been suckered.

Sawfly it is nice to know I am not alone in the widerness I to would like to know where this great and caring U S Gov is.
Cowman I am 10 yr older than you but even you must remember when out trade in agri products was east.
When Loughed became premier he gave the oil to the americans for $2 a barrel just to get people like me a job in the patch and I sure didnt get the kind of money you are getting and mabey if I did I would be kissing ass to .
Whats the worst that could have happened ? we might still own our oil ?mabey there would be a lot more reserves ? and I dont think we are all that stupid so that we couldnt have developed our own oil.
I dont say the yanks havnt been a bost to the economy but it could run on a few less dollars and spread them out a little more. And just where are they going to get alta crude if not from alta.
I have said it before and I will say it again when we trade with them it is because they want our product and if they have to pay for it boo hoo. Just think they are trying to serve 10 times the population we are so no wonder we have a trade surplus. I dont think it is emperative that we get all that dam oil out of the ground in our lifetime mabey we could live a little less and leave some for our kids that we have mortaged to death?

The fact is Bay Street wouldn't touch the oil field with a ten foot pole? It took American investment to get it rolling? Americans knew how to find oil from the big oil fields in Texas and Oklahoma.
I doubt we will run out of oil anytime soon? The tar sands and heavy oil are going to last a long, long time. It is my own personal belief the "age of oil" will soon come to an end, so I think lets make hay while the sun shines!
I do remember when our ag products went almost exclusively east. Alberta farmers shipped grain east. Alberta farmers shipped calves east. Alberta farmers paid the freight east on both!
Everyone in the west should get down on their knees everyday and thank Brian Mulrooney for getting us the free trade deal! It was the single most important thing he ever achieved.
The USA has recently approved a deal to drill in the Alaska Nature preserve. The amount of oil there could be extremely large and relatively easy to recover. Who knows what might happen? Maybe they will be in a position where they don't really need our oil? I suspect though they are getting leery of relying on oil from a shaky middle east and a bunch of commie flakes in South America?
Everyone in Alberta benifits from the oil and gas industry? Lower taxes, better infrastructure, higher incomes. The Alberta ag sector got a lot more subsidies than other provinces? We are all going to get a check in the new year! The Alberta government might not be the best managers in the world but I think they probably have done a better job than if we had the liberals or God forbid the NDP running the show!

I still dont see where they gave us anything without payment . Who pays the frieght south. You dont have to run out of oil all you have to do is reduce suply and there will be a world of hurt.
Would it be a real hardship not to get the big money in the oil patch or just a hardship on wants.

Horse...capitalism is the un-equal distribution of wealth, socalisim is the "equal" distribution of poverty!

Reading between the lines of every one of your posts is your fixation on the former. Envy, envy, envy!

I invite you once again...sell out and buy property with oil and gas on it, or move to Saskatchewan where you can buy even more with your dollars than you now own, and the attitude of the government towards developing resources is more in line with your sentiments.

Horse: You probably can remember the days of the NEP when the oil and gas business went through a major hit from the federal government? People lost their homes and businesses. Resource dependent communities were devastated. There were no jobs and nobody was buying...it wasn't just the oil field workers who got hurt but everyone in Alberta from the car dealerships to the retailers to the charities?
I would suggest another hit like that would be worse this time?
I have no doubt Ottawa will be coming again if the Liberals get elected...they have no choice really if they want to keep Quebec?
Will the Alberta people allow themselves to be ****d again?
I have rapped Ralph Klein several times here, but I do suspect his finest hour might be coming? I don't think Ralph will cave on this one? I don't think the people of Alberta will let him!

Ivbenconed Just because I see injustices in the system it dosent make me envious You are just calling out the same thing as the RACIST card that is supose to answer everything you dont agree with.
Cowman I know people that have had to sell and move because of the cost of energy does that make them any diferent than the oil workers that were over financed and ended up loosing thier homes.
My fatherinlaw was a push on the rigs in the NEP and he droped about 20% in wages but he still made app $50,000 so all all not to bad not as good as he was doing but OK.
Yes I cant see anyone wrth $1000 per day and more is that envy or gust comon sence , Would they still get that kind of money if oil hit $25 /barrel and if not then I submit they are not worth it now and as for your argument they save all this money why is it one day they are being watched and the next day they are watching someone else like a judge from an ambulance chaser to a judge who sudnly becomes as wise as solomom.

Well I don't quite see the problem of a highly effective person being paid by a private company for what he is worth? A decent lawyer gets $250/hour. A surgeon...who knows? Lots in that $500 K/year area? What kind of money a day does a Mario Lemieux get? To chase a puck around?
The market sets the price of oil and gas? The market also sets the price the companies pay their workers? If a drilling consultant is good at what he does, he can make/save that company millions? Therefore his value goes up?
I can't see where the problem is? Are you advocating wage and price controls or something? Those days when the state dictated these things are largely gone. We don't live in socialist heaven, yet?
