    Ontario vs Alberta

On the CBC last night they had a Liberal lady from Ontario go to Alberta to try to understand why we don't vote for the Liberals?
I think the story caught the very essence of two viewpoints on how we see government? Where Ontario voters see government as their loving caregivers...Alberta sees them as a evil necessity that we put up with!
I think the lady editor from the Calgary SUN(an imported Albertan) expressed how most Albertans felt? She expressed the "can Do" attitude we have out here? It is strange how some of the most rabid pro Albertans are from somewhere else? I guess it is refreshing to get out from under the socialist value system?
If you ever wondered about a "distinct society" this story pretty well said it all!

"And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."
    St. Matthew

"If you have all the fools in town on your side, you have a majority."
    Mark Twain

I guess it will always be the condition of ruling elites to be so arrogant and defensive that they become unwilling to look at other jurisdictions and emulate what may be working well somewhere else. Or reject that which fails somewhere else.

Even with in our own country!!

Thus our Saskatchewan masters view Albertans like Torontonions view Texas.

Well ivebinconned, you boys in Saskatchewan can always turn over a new leaf? You voted Conservative, federally, pretty strong last time and I suspect Sask. will be Tory blue this time?
It always bewilders me that you keep voting in those NDP governments, but even their incompetence isn't stopping you from becoming a "have" province...why just think what might happen if you had a real government instead of the commie gong show?

Big problem in saskatchewan is how they have created electorial boundries.
          thanks to the NDP
We have rural and then it juts just far enough into the city.
          Bingo anouther NDP victory.
Rural saskatchewan knows better hopefully the citys will finally figure it out.
          we can always dream.

I do realize Saskatchewan is mainly run by the urbanites at the expense of the rural population. Maybe your problem is a lot of those urbanites seem to work for the government crown corporations? Don't know if they are all that bad, just shocked with how many are around?
At one time we had a government registration system for vehicles. They privatized it several years ago and I don't think there is a soul who would go back to the public system! It was very inefficient...to say the least!
They also privatized the liquor stores and now we have a liquor store on every corner...not sure if that is good or bad, but it sure allowed a lot of businesses to flourish and the drunks don't have to drive so far to get their booze!

cowman do you think Alberta is any different ? Urban MLA's outnumber rural ones five to one !!!
My MLA has told me numerous times that when issues facing rural Albertans are discussed in caucus there are approximately six MLA's that have mainly rural constituents and will fight tooth and nail for rural issues, the rest represent 'rural' areas which are really agricultural communities surrounding large urban centres that will surely get the most attention.

Well I think our urbanites are different in that they are more involved in business and a free market way of thinking? However I agree that the urban areas run the show in reality.
That is very apparent when the goodies are rolled out. Calgary and Edmonton get the lions share.
We need to have patience with our Saskatchewan neighbors? You don't live under a system like the USSR and just overcome it one day? It takes some time?
