Don't be surprised if we get another Liebrano minority...only this time propped up by the Bloc...dispite all of Duceppe's spin which is for electoral puposes only!!

The bloc has traditionaly backed the Liebrano's in committee 90% of the time.

But if we get a "Thatcher " styled Conservative majority...BRING IT ON.

Silverback…Some advice if I may. It would be a lie if said I had 500 cows when I only had 100. It would be a lie if I said my wheat yielded 40 bushels per acres when it only yielded 25. It would be a lie if I told a sweet young thing I was single when I had a wife and children at home. What I typed and what you called lies is my opinion. There is a big difference.

I noted your reference to how long did I take to type up my post. Well no one has any doubt about how long it took you to come up with your post. I clearly recall it was a similar comment from you that gave grassfarmer reason to question why he bothered to contribute to these forums. If you have the impression that I put a great deal of time and thought into my posts I guess that is a compliment. You might consider doing some of the same.

Emrald1: I agree that all the leaders made some good points. Harper is the one that scares the hell out of me, so to each their own. At this point in the campaign I would say your analysis of the outcome is accurate. However no one should make any mistake about it, it will be a Conservative/Bloc coalition with the Bloc using their new found power to further their goals of separation. That will just fuel the baser sentiments of disenfranchised Canadians in and out of Quebec who think that is just fine.

Canadians may have to get used to minority governments as four major parties can easily split the available seats so no party will gain a majority of seats. I do not see this as positive for the country. If you look at the countries with the strongest performing economies none are typically governed by coalitions.

Farmers son: Being one of the "baser types" who hopes in my lifetime we will be free, I am fairly happy with how this election is going. Now mind you I think a Liberal majority might be just peachy too!
Occasionally I fall back into this ridiculous idea that maybe "Canada" can work? I see a possibility of a BLOC/west coalition working...and make no mistake that is what we are basically talking about with a Conservative minority? I suspect Duceppe and me are closer than me and Harper.
This is the last hurrah. Either the east buys the message or they don't? If central Canada thinks the status quoe of corruption and dirty government is going to work...then so be it. Watch the western seperatism and Quebec seperatism grow? That will be the time to get rid of this country and everyone go it alone? Looking forward to that day.

Just a sidenote farmers son: Please don't bring up anything up about silverback roasting grassfarmer and getting him in a snuff! I don't know how many anti-green type posts I had to make to lure him back here so I could continue to roast him! He is my favorite patsy.
Now having said that, realize that I do value grassfarmers posts and reluctantly I will admit he has made me think about some things from his perspective?
And also I do enjoy your posts and all the considerable effort you put into them. Hey if we all thought the same it would be a pretty boring world?

So sorry f_s, if they are your opinions then that is great, I should have called your post full of inuendo, speculation, and liberal spin. The problem for me is that I have a hard time deciphering between Liberal spin and outright false statements.

I will try to do better next time around.

Don’t apologize silverback, innuendo that’s meant to distort the truth, should be called a lie. And f_s implying Harper is another Pat Robertson isn’t just innuendo or half truth, it’s downright slanderous. Very disappointing. Since Liberal attack ads are basically doing the same thing, we know where he gets it from.

Some of us posting here on Agriville would like nothing better than to see the Liberals get the punt, but we don’t stoop to posting half truths and lies in order to imply nefarious intentions.
Granted, we don’t have to make anything up; there is so much actual Liberal dirty laundry available without having to rely on fabrications.

Well I don't mind people ripping political parties, I think most people can see through the more blatant BS? The fact is Paul Martin is not squeaky clean and I think most people can see that.
The people of Canada will decide who is full of BS on Jan. 23...and right now it looks like they don't believe Martin...time will tell?
I'm not overly concerned about who gets elected down east, but it sure would be nice if Alberta and Saskatchewan went solid Tory Blue! As well as most of BC? I realize Vancouver won't. Too many gullible immigrants and left wing kooks for that to ever happen?

The reference to Pat Robertson came as a result of reading a column in the Washington Post that said the Conservatives moral policies would win the vote of any evangelist. Pat Robertson immediately came to mind. And the fact that I believe Pat Robertson would be quite comfortable in the Conservative party does speak to some of their more extreme policies.

If you’re referring to the vote on gay marriage, then Robertson would be comfortable with the Liberal MPs or NDP MP who voted against that legislation as well, despite the party whip. Is it the lack of a policy requiring the whipping of their MPs in this kind of vote that you view as extreme? Pretty big stretch f_s. Should forward that to headquarters though, they might not have thought of it yet for their next attack ad.

Silverback: Of course "extreme" is a a matter of your perspective. Some Conservative policy positions that Pat Robertson and a few Albertans would be quite comfortable with:

The Conservative Party supports relaxing foreign ownership requirements on Canadian industry.

The Conservative Party supports the consolidation of Canadian banks.

The Conservative Party supports a voluntary Canadian Wheat Board.

The Conservative Party would remove the CRTCs ability to limit American programming.

The Conservative Party supports for profit health care services.

The Conservative Party would support increased patent protection for drug companies.

The Conservative Party would change the student loan program so children of rich families could have access to student loans.

The Conservative Party would try youth 14 years and older as adults.

The Conservative Party supports joining with the United States in the U.S. Missile Defense Program.

The Conservative Party would work to merge Canada’s security forces with the United States.

Bottom line we would have a very different Canada under a Conservative government. If Canadians understand who they are voting for and elect a Conservative government that is fine but for the most part these Conservative policy positions are not widely recognized. For certain the Conservatives are not talking about them. Under a Conservative government Canada would move to be very much like the United States in both form and substance. Pat Robertson would feel right at home.

farmers_son, do you think that trying 14 year olds that commit adult type crimes, murder, sex related crimes to name a few should be protected and tried as youth, then allowed to serve a minimum in the community sentence ?? I think it is time to crack down on youth crime and perhaps the way to do it is to have a damn good deterrent, if you do the crime at 14 and over you are considered an adult and will be treated as such by the courts.
Maybe it would help lower the crime rate by youth, and maybe our communities would not be plagued with gangs of young people intimidating the elderly when they want to go for a walk, or intimidating shoppers in malls etc.
Should we continue to treat all youth that commit crimes as babes and give them a pat on the wrist ???

Perhaps you aren't in a community where break and enters, drug related crimes are common place. Try coming home to find your house ransacked, your expensive Christmas display smashed, and obscene words spray painted all over your home. When the perpetrators are cought they are 14 and 15 year old little @@##$$'s....should they be handed a good stiff sentence to get them off the streets and out of the community or should they be given a few hours of community work that they will regard as a total joke ?????
