The debate over the power line in western Alberta is pretty hot right now?
In one of the local papers(Central Alberta Life) they had an article on this and it is an eye opener! Apparently the route proposed by AltaLink is the most expensive option(13 options) of all they considered(also the most damaging environmentally) but was bulled through by the majority shareholder(77%)
SNC-Lavelin Group? However this AltaLink project is being funded by the taxpayer!
Now this company(SNC) is a large engineering/consruction company and will do the construction! At the end of the project they will own 77% of the line worth $1.1 billion! It is in their interest to make this project as expensive as possible!
The EUB basically rubberstamped this one. Does that surprize you?
