    faster dial up speeds?????

I typed “fast dial up modem” in goggle and found some things there that might be applicable or helpful to us poor peasants living in the country with slow dial up connections.

Found web sites with something called "accelerators" that they claim will speed up download speeds. Anyone here had any experiance with this??

I subscribed to the faster dial up on Telus and it caused problems with my computer.
I notice that my new Toshiba is much faster opening files and pictures than either my Dell or HP laptop were.
Hopefully we will be able to access high speed before too long.

They will let you download faster, but uploading is still a problem.

I have no technical explanation for it (no computer techie here) but I do know that having more RAM will help a little.

When they do finally get high-speed out to all of us, I just hope that the price isn't too out of whack. I'm not sure I can justify $50/month no matter how quick the download is.

ivbinconned: Forget the browseraccelerator thingee. In my experience these so-called cures are not worth the time/money/frustration involved. I have operated computers since 1982 and other than minor tweaking Windows default will serve you quite well in most cases.
These snake-oil salesmen want to enhance their bank balance more than anything else. Until we all have access to highspeed internet access we will have to plod along with 28.8 Kbps service.

PRIS Peace Region Internet Society as well as other providers has an "accelerator" option for about $ 2.50 per month above their dial-up rates.
I used it during their 1 month free trial and agree that there was a noticeable improvement in web-page loading (surfing) but I understand download/upload times are not changed.
The current issue of the Mirror (or other free weekly) has an article from the manager of Software Emporium (Daw Cr) who recently got satellite internet installed at his rural residence. As I recall, it cost about $ 1200 for the harware and installation, plus $ 55 per month, and provided fast access.

we have an accelerator not a big deal of worth the time. look into wildrose internet, or explorenet they offer 300-500kbs upload/download speed for around $30-$35 plus about $400 for equipment vereses $20 and about 30-40kbs

My brother signed up for the accelerator thingy from Starchoice and was not impressed at all.
I would hope that a comprehensive comparison of a half dozen different systems would be available in the near future. So far, the cost is just too damned high for the benefits received.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this "Xplornet" high speed internet. Offering different speeds from 512Kbps DLS and 128Kbps ULS to 2.0 Mbps DLS and 500Kbps ULS.
It was brought to my attention from a local flyer in the mail from a local dealer. He said to make it worth while you go with "Vonage" for your phone and say good by to Telus. Most cases being able to keep your same phone number. Again! Just wondering if anyone has had any first hand experience?

                        Sorry Haller missed your thread!
                        Do you have Xplornet?
If you do is it as good as it sounds?
