I think I heard Chuck Strahl say that the Canadian government spends $5.3 billion on Canadian farmers every year? Now I wonder, as a taxpayer, what is that doing for me?
It is generally felt here that supply management makes some sort of sense in that you have a safe secure food supply that is paid for by consumers, not taxpayers? If that is true then it means we are spending the tax money to export? Is that very smart?
Maybe what the government needs to do is put every commodity under supply management? Just produce what our people can consume, do it at a price farmers can make a profit at, and eliminate the Ag budget, or at least greatly reduce it?
Of course then we'd have to do something with all the land and all the disposessed peasants from that land? How about giving the land back to the Indians and they could turn it back into a big buffalo pasture! Then the government could cut back at Indian Affairs also!
As for the peasants....well Macdonalds is looking for people all the time! LOL
