    coalbed

Around here they are really going to it on the coalbed wells. Punching holes as fast as they can move and building pipelines. Putting lots of cash into the local farmers pockets as well as the local businesses!
So far haven't heard of any water wells being affected? Maybe all the naysayers didn't have a clue what they were talking about?

And maybe the damage just hasn't made it's presence known yet. If the wells are going in that fast, it may take some time for problems to become apparent.

Let's talk about that money going into farmer's pockets. For that money - even if it is in the several thousand dollar range - that is good for the short term. What about long term implications? By that I mean what do you do to the land development wise? If you have all these holes punched in your land, even if you did want to develop, what are the ramifications of that? What about pipelines or compressor stations - how will that affect future property value? What about lending institutions? The lease may be okay when you as the current landowner grant it, but what about if you want to sell the land? Perhaps future buyers will be denied funding - then what?

It may keep the wolf away from the door right now, but in the long run, are you really doing yourself any favours? It's just too bad that so many producers are in the position that they have to take the money and not able to think through the decisions they are making right now.
