Award gives Alberta farmers 10,000 reasons to grow their business
Best Practices Awards program encourages industry growth
Edmonton... Alberta's agricultural producers now have 10,000 reasons to share innovative ideas for growing farm operations. A new Best Practices Renewal Awards program will give three awards valued at $10,000 each to three producers with great new ideas for expanding their agricultural business and adding value to their farm.
Under the Agricultural Policy Framework, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative, the awards program celebrates the innovative ideas of producers and encourages the growth of Alberta's vibrant agriculture industry. To be eligible, applicants must register for the AgChoices 2007 Conference, be 18 years or older, and own farmland in Alberta.
"Today's producers are looking for innovative ways to make sure their business is sustainable," says Shari Smith, Manager, APF Renewal Programs for Alberta Agriculture and Food. "That requires solid planning and looking at opportunities for growth. The Best Practices Renewal Award is designed to recognize and assist producers who demonstrate these qualities."
Applications for the Best Practices Renewal Award must be submitted by February 1 at 4:30pm. Award winners will be announced on February 21 at the AgChoices 2007 Conference in Red Deer.
