Why is everyone so skeptical of the new green ideas? It is proven that they will work.
In the past, every farm yard had a windmill and the buses in the cities were electric- probably more practical than today's as they had a continuous cable ran all over to run off of instead of having to stop to charge. Gotta love new technology.
Now, if they could only run a continuous cable so I didn't have to plug in my phone

Honestly i see it all this way.
EVs win out because they are " officially" less of a carbon footrpint. So this will get pushed harder than anything ICE in first world countries. In 3rd world countries that are developing ( and china).. welll.... heres russian oil... canadian coal... etc etc to burn and grow your population.

In the developed countries though... such as canada..
whats the difference in who gets subsidized? Honestly.
take a look at every provincial govt and you will see that ice related industry or Ev Related gets subsidized heavily. "Renewables" in bc .. oil and gas here in alberta... but at the end of the day its all in the name of jobs jobs jobs ( but in actuality big business wins and will always win).
How could we possibly need to sibsidize something with tax dollars in order for it to be adopted.. IF it is economically feasible? Hint. We dont.

If it isnt however, then what the piss are we doing?
Why would trudeau need to pump a couple billion to alberta in order to start abandoned well cleanups?
        how stupid is that?

How come the federal govt really and truly bought the pipeline?

Why would you need to lift the carbon tax on heating oil in order to help people transition to using a heat pump.. if heat pumps truly are the greatest and most affordable?

Why would we need to give an incentive to people to buy an electric vehicle AND and incentive to install a charger for said vehicle.. IF its cheaper and more economical to use?
        Hint. Its not.

But, business always wins and money always talks.
Personally id sooner see subsidies go to the development ( not the utiliization) of renewable energy products/ transitions.

Why wouldnt every single home in canada be built with solar panels and a backup battery? Sibsidize that to the tune of 10 k instead of paying people to replace their windows ( i got 200 bucks a window...even though we needed to replace them!)

The whole thing is truly ludacris both ways.
If something saves people money and WORKS for the people in that area * IN THAT AREA* then why would you need to pay people to adopt it when the natural cycle of economical evolution will win over. Survival of the fittest in feasibility.

Once Ottawa and the White House are blight free and the new governments return to operating a country like a business by allowing people, whether they live in Galveston or Norman Wells, to decide which vehicle, EV or ICE, they choose to drive based on operating cost, reliability and especially winter safety, the quicker companies will move to service those market needs. Socialist governments specializing in laws, taxes and bureaucrats always, always get it wrong, but if given the chance and left alone people become very efficient.

Great post. My favourite comment was related to Heat pumps. If they are truly so economical why does the federal government have to subsidize their installation to the tune of $15000 in Atlantic Canada?!?!

Was thinking about that too! I wonder how many KM an average city person puts on in a day. Would they run down a battery so low they would need fast charge or would trickle chargers recharge over night? I would think at night everyone on the block could run a fairly good size charger.

Does a trickle charger take more power than a block heater?

Keeping the interior of car warm in winter is a bigger concern to me.

How many of you guys want to go back to your dial up internet, party lines or pre GPS auto steering equipment? I think we can safely say zero.

Most new technology is much better and a huge advancement.

We have been using electricity to power many things for a long time. Battery costs have come down and have improved significantly and will continue to improve with solid state batteries coming in a couple of more years. And after that there will be continuous innovation.

And many EVs can be charged during the day while they are parked at work. That would be the ideal time to charge them when there is lots of low cost solar electricity.

We need more lower cost EVs that are close to the cost of ICE vehicles. That will happen. For most consumers EVs will easily cover their transportation needs.

The reason why many people are holding back on current EVs is cost and lack of charging infrastructure that makes range anxiety a concern.

Just remember all of your examples were demand driven.

Tripling the generation and tripling grid is FREE! How lucky!
The demand for materials to do that will make costs sky rocket. Unviable.
Fixing something that's NOT broke. Woke bastards.

That’s the astonishing thing that is never talked about . The infrastructure alone is near impossible for decades and the materials needed for 100% EV’s will cause untold environmental destruction and are even more limited than oil and gas .
But hey why look at the basics, we now live in a fairy tail world of woke ideology that is mostly pretend anyway

think of the pristine , co2 free , carbon tax free, wood chips from sask. being burnt in europe , emissions free , (if you are an idiot)
