For about the last week here I sweep the cement off 3 times a day.
If I had panels out in the field that would be inconvenient and time consuming.
Time is money for most people?
If I had panels on the roof that would be a no go.

Production at this time of year is fundamentally insignificant?

Is that a fair assessment Chuck?

As far as I know none of the grid scale solar facilities have any means to clean snow off of panels. They readily admit that production this time of year is not enough to pay the labour for cleaning them off. Says a lot.
Perhaps Chuck knows of some exceptions?

Not sure if this belongs in the Covid thread, or the failed renewable energy thread. So I posted it in both.

Is the Economist a credible source, Chuck?

Every once and a while something surprises you. I was eating breakfast, looked at what Alberta’s windmills were producing and it was “0”!!!

Are you freezing in the dark Hamloc? LOL

Solar and wind are intermittent? No way I have never heard of that.

You don't think grid operators have a plan for cold weather events?

Its been quite windy in many parts of the prairies this cold spell. Hence the high wind chill values.

But apparently the wind turbines have all stopped even in areas that have 10 - 30kmh winds?

Let’s see, first you accuse me of being a conspiracy theorist, now, are you accusing the Alberta Electric System Operator of falsely reporting electrical production from Wind turbines? Electrical production from Alberta’s wind turbines has been below 5% since Thursday evening, bottoming out at 0 this morning. Last I looked Wind was producing 2 MW out of a potential 4481 MW. Do you think all those theoretical future EV’s theoretically powering the future renewables grid would be out of electricity by now?!

So Alberta is the only province on the prairies?

You have heard of backup sources and imports from BC hydro?

With such a record cold spell and your lights are still on?

                        Hamloc what happened?

Here is an article for you to read Chuck2 on Global, posted Jan. 10: “B.C.’s energy supply can’t meet demand for power:report.”

”The report said by 2026 that increasing demand and generation constraints could become an issue.” I guess we better not look to B.C.!

As for the fact my lights are still on?! That is thanks to natural gas and coal!
