A problem with -30 or colder is Cold Brittle Behavior many materials lose their strength if there is wind the wind mills could self destruct so a stretch of consistant cold weather would keep them out of production

2 natural gas plants shut down unexpectedly and were not running in Alberta as well. But all the blame rests on renewables? Only in Alberta!

Chuck, tell us that fairy tale about the renewables transition again please:
Worldwide electricity generation from coal hit record highs in 2023, while thermal coal exports surpassed 1 billion metric tons for the first time as coal's use in power systems continues to grow despite widespread efforts to cut back on fossil fuels.
Coal-fired electricity generation was 8,295 terawatt hours (TWh) through October, up 1% from the same period in 2022 and the highest on record, according to environmental think tank Ember.
Total thermal coal exports were 1.004 billion metric tons for the whole year, up by 62.5 million tons or 6.6% from 2022, ship-tracking data from Kpler shows.

This is why I keep telling Chuck that an EV is a coal powered car. Statistically speaking, across the world, increased demand due to things like EV's is being met by increasing coal generation, since there are no viable alternatives.

Chuck is not concerned with what the rest of the world is doing.
Lives in his own little CBC based dreamworld.

They could be free but if you have to have a complete backup system to cover their shortfall, they are too expensive.

The AESO knows renewables are intermittent and make a plan for that predictable situation. So that doesn't mean they don't reduce carbon emissions and provide a lot of low cost electricity for the grid.
Danny and the dinosaurs are already blaming the clean energy regulations which aren't in place yet? LOLLast edited by chuckChuck; Jan 19, 2024, 08:51.

One of the reason residents of Toronto and Ottawa have few anticipation or forward thinking skills is because if anything close to what they would call a crisis occurs or may occur, the army arrives to make it all better. No worries no thought required.
Chuck when you use the word "already", 2034 is late, but apparently 2024 too early for you and Rosey, what month and year would Alberta's concerns about more energy and survival be more etiquette friendly, possibly a Goldilocks range?

Chuck, tell us again about that cheaper renewable energy.
Joe Kaeser, chairman of Siemens Energy, suggested higher energy bills were inevitable as turbine makers grapple with huge losses, forcing them to pass on costs to their customers....
he said, while many are reluctant to admit the full costs of their plans to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The following quote is quite the admission from the chairman of a wind turbine manufacturer:
“If you want to have cheap energy, you need to be gas fired. That’s the cheapest way, the most secure way if you calculate the whole thing, from the beginning to the end “
Interview: Joe Kaeser says ‘a lot of big mouths but little action’ pushing wind turbine makers into the red
