The vast majority of parents support their children regardless of gender or sexual orientation and just want them to be safe and happy. When they reach 18 they can do whatever they want anyway, regardless of parents.

But In Alberta, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick they want to put "parental rights" over the well being of children which violates the charter and puts already vulnerable transgender and LGBQT children at a higher risk of self harm and mental health issues.

They did all this without consulting transgender kids and families and the experts who use accepted medical practices to care for them.

The vast majority of parents know all about their children and support their kids differences.

But in Alberta the "Libertarian" government is going to take away the liberties of LGBQT+ kids and their families to choose whats best for themselves.

Apparently the Albertan libertarians aren't really libertarians! Surprise, surprise!

They want to tell families how to live their lives according to their socially conservative values.

Crypto Poilievere has ordered his MPs not to comment on Alberta's charter of rights breaking proposed policy on sex ed and transgender kids.

He knows that these kinds of regressive discriminatory policies don't work for him and threaten to derail his next campaign.

How does Mellissa Lantsman the Deputy CPC leader, openly gay and married to another woman, manage to almost disappear on this and other social justice issues? Is she that weak that she puts up with silence on this issue when she is a proud member of the LGBQT+ community?

Crypto has got all the sheep lined up to say nothing rather than risk a bozo outbreak.

And of course the bigots and haters on Agrisilly cheer Smith on because they really don't support protecting vulnerable LGBQT+ children and human rights.

Landsman, whoever, we have no place in their bedroom, nor does anyone have free reign with our children. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Chucky. I couldn’t care less what you do, don’t wanna know either.

Since when does permanent mutilation qualify as "safe"?

The vast majority of surgeries are performed on adults and rarely on anyone below 18.

The medical system is well placed to make these decisions on what kind of care is best for their patients. Your opinion is irrelevant.

And what transgender people decide to do with their bodies is none of your business.

So pretend "libertarians" are now telling everybody how to live their life?

Alberta under Danny Smith is rolling back the clock and attacking LGBQT+ students and citizens by catering to the social conservatives who don't believe that LGBQT+ people are equal.

Its a watered down version of Ron Desantis ploy to cancel all discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in Florida schools.

If we don't teach kids that LGBQT+ kids exist then Desantis believes they will go away?

Desantis and Smith will happily put LGBQT+ people back in the closet.

Smith is using parental rights as an excuse to take away the rights of Trans and LGBQT students. Which already puts the most vulnerable students in harms way.

                        John Ibitson

"Parents in Alberta currently may opt out of having their child taught sex-ed. But now they must specifically choose to opt in, or their child will not be taught the subject. And here’s a guess: Parents who refuse to sign the form will likely have children who most need the lessons.

With this new policy, Ms. Smith has increased the risk of teenage pregnancies in Alberta. Some young people deprived of school guidance on how they should handle their sexual feelings will have to rely on the internet for answers.

Any decent sex-ed curriculum will also teach children about people in their community who are LGBTQ. A few of the students in the class may be questioning their own sexuality. They will need support. Equally important, those who are straight will need to learn about those among them who aren’t.

After all, some parents tell their children that ***** folk are sinners or perverts or groomers. Some parents, if they detect signs that their child may be gay, try to keep them on the straight and narrow.

Some children, parental prejudice stuffed in their heads, become swaggering bullies or fearfully closeted – or both. The new mandatory opt-in requirement ensures there will be more of this.

Only a couple of dozen minors receive top surgery in Alberta annually. Yet the issue consumes vast amounts of political oxygen.

That’s because the trans issue is a stalking horse. There are people who oppose equal treatment and respect for sexual minorities. They know that stand is now out of bounds. So they jump on the issue of trans kids or LGBTQ sex-ed instead.

Saskatchewan and New Brunswick have imposed restrictions on kids changing their pronouns without parental consent. And remember the fight over the “don’t say gay” legislation passed by the Florida legislature in 2022? It only banned instruction on sexual and gender identity for children in kindergarten through Grade 3. But after the furor had died down, restrictions were quietly extended to all grades. Similar actions (https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/30-new-lgbtq-education-laws-are-effect-students-go-back-school-rcna101897) have been taken in red states across the U.S.

As a spokesperson for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis explained: “There is no reason for instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity to be part of K-12 public education. Full stop.” This is how intolerance advances.

There are kids in Alberta – straight kids and ***** kids and trans kids – who need help in a hostile world. If the situation at home is a problem, then maybe teachers and counsellors can help. Maybe other kids who have been raised right and taught right can help.

But the Premier of Alberta is determined to curtail that help. It’s a damn shame.

Giving parents the right to raise their children without sexualization before they reach Grade Six is an abuse of rights? Young children should never be used as objects of indoctrination, especially sexual indoctrination. I am overjoyed that someone is giving parents back their rights to protect their children if teachers and administrators are spineless enough to abuse their position. As for children with gender issues, 18 is the legal age of consent in this country.

Danielle is merely reinforcing the legal parameters as they exist. It is a crime that we have to emphatically protect family rights but that’s Canada today.
