This works both ways. Maybe what the Scandinavian countries need is some Eastern Canadians to show them how to manage Norway's resource revenue.
Send some Quebec liberals over to Sweden to enact a equalization scheme upon Norway. Obviously, Norway cannot be trusted to manage their own resource revenue, since they have readily kept it to themselves instead of sharing with their less resource endowed neighbors.

And I will never forgive Stephen Harper for reducing the gst. So much political capital wasted to enact the consumption tax. The only equitable form of taxation. Did GST alone was probably responsible for forcing the conservatives into the hinterland for a decade.
Then Stephen Harper tempted to use the reduction to buy votes. And it did not work. What a complete waste.

And how did the work out for Mulroney? Lowest approval rating in history of any sitting Prime Minister at 12%! Then in typical Liberal fashion Jean Chrétien ran the 1993 election on removing the GST and getting rid of free trade but as with most Liberal promises he didn’t follow through.

Equalization is a Federal program and is paid for with federal taxes. No money is sent from Alberta directly to any other other province.

And Albertans pay the same federal tax rate as every other Canadian. But Alberta has the highest GDP per capita because of the oversized oil industry relative to population. It sucks to be rich?
