    Canadian Carbon Rebate

The rebates — recently rebranded as the Canadian Carbon Rebate — also have increased along with the carbon price, says Finance Canada. To receive the rebate, you need to file an income tax return. The rebate arrives through direct deposit in your bank account or through a cheque in the mail.

The payments come every three months; the next one is scheduled to arrive as early as April 15.

Here are the amounts a single adult person can expect to receive quarterly:
    • $225 in Alberta.
    • $150 in Manitoba.
    • $140 in Ontario.
    • $188 in Saskatchewan.
    • $95 in New Brunswick.
    • $103 in Nova Scotia.
    • $110 in Prince Edward Island.
    • $149 in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Here are the amounts a family of four can expect to receive quarterly:
    • $450 in Alberta.
    • $300 in Manitoba.
    • $280 in Ontario.
    • $376 in Saskatchewan.
    • $190 in New Brunswick.
    • $206 in Nova Scotia.
    • $220 in Prince Edward Island.
    • $298 in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Rural residents get a 10 per cent top-up on their rebates because they tend to drive more and consume more fuel. That rural top-up will double once a bill now before Parliament becomes law.

It is much worse than that. As per my previous post, per capita CO2 emissions in Canada was 15.22 tones per year. For the average family that worked out to over $3,500 per year.
According to Chuck's information about, the average Ontario family(as a proxy for the average canadian, their value is about the middle of the range) would receive $280 per quarter. That would be $1,120 per year.
So the total CO2 tax burden for a family will be more than three times what the rebates are. Much of that is hidden in the cost of living, or in the uncompetitiveness of our exports.

          Not an expert.
So it's like a semi targeted VAT with a % rebate to lower or most personal incomes.
GST rebates to lower incomes as well.
Applies equally to end user mostly.
Would require no duplication of administration.
          Either way, it's politically dead.
          Great fodder. Suicidal actually.

Good thing for direct deposit eh chuck. No more turning the ball cap to look in the mail box for the final payment cheque.

So for a layman like me.
A domestically manufactured product. Is affected in some small way from its very beginning to end use at all stages.
A foreign manufactured product is only affected on the end delivery.
I thought we went away from manufacturing and value add taxes.
              What am I missing?
If you have a BN you get your GST expenses back no?

How many people own cars in metro areas, few.
So, Trudo may believe this is his legacy. His Repatriation or FTA, Meech Lake.

Something easily sold because it "only hurts the big corps or the rich who can afford big cars.
But it is and will be a negative legacy.
Seen as such by both those who can and cannot afford it. His Avro.

Funny little PP never mentions the rebates in his absolutely stupid claims that the carbon tax is the cause of all inflation!

Crypto should rename his campaign " Axe the facts" !

And Curly Moe testified in front of Parlimentary Operations and Estimates Committee that they looked at provincial options for the carbon tax and could find none that were lower in cost than the carbon tax.

According to the Parlimentary Budget Office 80% of families will get back more than they put in with 90% of the tax being returned into the economy.

The effect on inflation is relatively small at well less than 1% even when you add in the indirect costs.

Moe has his own large emitters carbon tax that and a plan to reduce emissions. But its a weak plan because he doesn't want to hurt the excess profits taken by his oil business supporters and friends.

And apparently rising energy costs because of the market never cause inflation according to Moe, Smith, Ford and Crypto!

Trees are good so maybe farmers should stop clearing them if they want carbon credits for zero till?

And how many trees have you planted or allowed to regrow on your imaginary farm? Or is it only trees that are removed in modern times that are the problem, not the ones your ancestors removed?

Then add the massive amount of carbon crops , hay and pasture absorb.
and yes the benefits of min / zero till .
Canada is slashing its own throat with the carbon tax for nothing

We are not net zero because all those sinks also release CO2 as well. Trees, grass and most carbon sinks release carbon over time. They were in equilibrium more or less for 1000s of years.

Cultivated soils also release Nitrous Oxide in large amounts regardless of sequestration.

The CO2 levels are still going up because of carbon from fossil fuels.
