Rex did a pretty good job on that show and Ian Hanomansing is also very good.

As impartial talk show hosts they aren't supposed to express their own opinions. Unlike Gormley who is all about Gormley sprinkled with a few calls that most often agree with Gormley. What a surprise!

But I get the impression that most of you libertarians only want to hear opinions you agree with?

I see some are praising Rex as the voice of the ordinary person.

How many ordinary people could use so many big fancy university educated words in one sentence as Rex, and still think he representative the ordinary citizen?

In the end Rex sold out to the National Post and was paid to take the conservative line for a conservative readership.

He was fired from the Globe and Mail opinion section.

After that he must have been pissed at the moderate centrists and he veered to to right on many issues writing mostly what the National Post readers wanted to hear.

His language skills were erudite and sophisticated. But his right wing opinions? Not so much.

The most telling part about this entire thread is that Chuck projects that the only reason to hold a public opinion i or change your opinion s because you are paid to do so. Not because people have convictions, ethics or morals.

Rex Murphy chose the path of common sense. He kept his feet grounded. More people should exercise their communication muscle. It doesn't require a university degree thank goodness.
He led by example and conviction.

As in most things, wheat or green tech, it's politics. Believe what you will, trade policies are going to drive the pace of change. Our competitiveness will set the price.

My suspicions as to what you would see were correct. But I also see this in the cod analogy.
Rex was grounded in a proud make do with little culture. He saw the greatest support for his people not in govt welfare but economic opportunities. Exodus to prosperity for those who could and money sent home to those who couldn't.
A thriving economy elsewhere in the nation. People moving to the money. Not money flowing to them.
He witnessed a destruction and rebirth of pride itself.
There are other lessons such as reliance on one industry of course. And John Crosby showing a character that seems to lack today.
The moral is, it's the economy.
Politics has changed and not for the better as evidenced by all the attention paid to how we drink and what we drink from. The sideshow has become the main attraction. I suggest distraction.
Our greatest cost will come from ignorance of the economy.
