I don’t think you need to be woke to think the residential schools were not the best way to educate native children, involuntarily. But really it isn’t much different than some little French kids (who at 6 years old) were packed up and sent off to boarding school. Not much different. Just saying! Neither one was what today’s society would embrace.

Boarding school was voluntary!
Residential schools were forced assimilation where you weren't allowed to speak your language or be a first nation kid in a culture you didn't understand.
And then there was the emotional abuse that started with ripping the kids from their families, along with the physical and sexual abuse.
That's why Steven Harper apologized in the house.
So saying it wasn't really different than boarding school is bullshit again!
Imagine how your kids would be if they were taken from you at an early age forced to speak a different unknown language and abused in many cases?
It can causes a life time of trauma and many mental health problems.

.
The majority Russian population in eastern Ukraine who has been forcibly denied the right to speak their native language appreciate your support.
I hope you don't face the wrath of forage, because he takes a different position on this issue.
That is of course assuming that you are not just being a hypocrite and applying a different set of rules depending on who is being oppressed and who is the oppressor.

Just more residential school denialism and deflection? That's all you got when it comes to discussing what happened in Canada!
And we are still living with the legacy of residential schools. So it's not all in the past it's in the present.
If you can get beyond your denialism and lame deflections, try to figure out what Stephen Harper was apologizing for?
