Any royalty revenues should be banked minus some costs for infrastructure associated. Further taxes from increased incomes and spin off business hopefully covers the rest. However, the federal cut ie supporting the have nots eats into maintaining infrastructure. Norway has 5.5 million people. About the same pop as Alberta and Saskatchewan combined. You’re the expert find out total resource royalty revenues, total federal and income taxes collected and government expenditures both provincial and federal those two provinces. Then tell us all. I’m guessing we could bank our royalties and start a sovereign wealth fund rivalling Norway minus Ottawa.

sure Alberta could’ve done better with their heritage fund but obviously the ndp did a worse job for the majority of years they were in power in Sask. Nothing to show for anything.

They both could have put more aside in a heritage fund. But no that would have required negotiating with the industry who fights every attempt to raise royalties.

I don’t disagree. In return though and this goes for all resource extraction and large scale industries what would be the environment governments could provide to attract and keep said business while paying higher royalties? Kinda sucks when jurisdictions across the border don’t have to do much to snipe businesses away from us. Don’t say nationalization because you guys tried it and we know how that went.

Poor labour productivity wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that 1/4 of the workforce now works for the government, which doesn't produce anything. And growing at a 5% annual rate. Growing 8 times faster than private sector employment.

Math question for Chuck, at this rate, how many years before 100% of all jobs in Canada are government jobs, and what will be our productivity when 100% of the jobs produce absolutely nothing?
