Huh? How else do you decide the direction the country will head, if not by politics?

And Tsipper must have had too many 2 by 4s to his head already!

Chuck do yourself a favor and read willful blindness. The author sam cooper through his investigative research will enlighten you. If you can handle it.

I would love to hear chucks thoughts on those two bills .
But most likely falsely accuse others of something completely factitious to distract her / his support for the idiots who brought those bills forward.

We need to wait for the NFU to release their position on these bills before Chuck will know what his opinion is supposed to be.

                A real original free thinker.

Latest poll shows that as usual a winner will be declared before they even start counting votes in western Canada.

Doesn't seem right that a government that has so little support can continue to force their policies on the country.

That is also the age group least likely to vote.

I see the PPC and Mad Max which is the party that most closely aligns with many of the Agrisilly regulars is trailing badly and will win no seats

Centre left parties still have 52% of the national vote if you add them all up compared to 43% for the CPC.

But our archaic first past the post electoral system doesn't represent voters very well and results in a big majority for a single party with less support.

                      Exactly, among other things.
Attempts at changing the electoral system or anything Senate has been consistently blocked by one group.

As archaic as folks believe fptp is, the liberal party wouldn’t think of ever giving it up as it has been the benefactor of majority governments because of it. If you were to go to some form of proportional representation conservatives and your beloved ndp would fare better. However, this would also see representation from the ppc and more gpc. Is that what you want Chuck?

Wouldnt an overhaul of the senate evenly weighted and elected regionally be a better start than a list of party hacks getting acclaimed because the party has a quota of seats to fill? Not a detractor of pr by any means but European examples came with some unintended consequences I don’t think you would care for.

So you are going to give PEI with a population of 178,000 the same number of senators as Ontario, Quebec and Alberta?

                            We don't need a senate.

But what we do need is a house that represents the votes of Canadians.

If the PPC or Greens get 2% of the vote nationally they will have 2% representation

There are many examples of successful electoral systems based on proportional representation.

                            National Poll

                            A December 2022 EKOS poll (https://www.fairvote.ca/nationalpoll/) shows

76% of Canadians—including a strong majority of supporters of all parties—back a National Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform.

Support for the fundamental principle of proportional representation is strong. 90% say that Parliament should reflect how people voted. 78% think that majority governments should have at least 50% of the popular vote.

Canadians firmly oppose any single party alone changing the electoral system to suit their preferences.

At present Atlantic Canada has 30 senators. Total population of Atlantic Canada(Nova Scotia, NewBrunswick, Newfoundland and PEI) is roughly 2.5 million. Alberta with a population approaching 5 million has 6 senators. How is that for equitable?! And yes I do think we need a senate but it needs to be far more regionally equitable and it needs to be more effective!!

                                ?
