?But Peter Phillips, a recently retired economics professor for the University of Saskatchewan's Johnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy, said the report is vague and based on shaky assumptions.

He said any private investor considering this project would walk away after reading the first few pages.

"I don't see anything there that I'd see anybody put private capital up for," he said. "If the public is willing to take the risk and front-end load it with public capital, there's a possibility we will get a modest increase in economic activity in one part of the province."

Ross Hickey, an associate professor of economics in UBC's faculty of management, was more blunt, saying if this project was pitched to the CBC's Dragon's Den program, "I don't think it would make it to broadcast."

He said that while the report does indicate the project would increase provincial GDP, which would benefit some people in the province, "it's not making money for the Government of Saskatchewan, in particular."

"[The project] costs today, in real terms, more money than the future lifetime value of benefits that come from the project," he said. "Which means why bother?"

That means that the project would cost far more today — $1.15 billion — than it would return to taxpayers over the next 50 years — $410 million.

"We're not getting all the money back out at the end of the day," Phillips said. "We're going to be paying a subsidy into this space."

He said the government and taxpayers need to ask a hard question about that $1.15-billion price tag.

"Is this the best place you can put this to improve the economy in Saskatchewan? I'm not convinced this is the best one."

Project not being bragged about .Definitely way too much cost for gain.In fact most other farmers may have negative gain from increase grain production.A project to fill many pockets with taxpayers money is what it is,all about.

Scotty Moe is wasting billions on a project that will have little benefit!

Health care and education are going down the drain in this province because of their mismanagement.

Long wait times. Frequent rural closures of facilities. Overcrowded classrooms with few supports.

Create more spaces to train doctors and nurses that will stay in the province. And fund the system adequately.

And make sure everyone has a family doctor or access to a clinic with a team of professionals because without primary care many end up in the ER.

Create more long term care beds so seniors don't tie up hospital beds.

Put the money where it will provide the most benefit to everyone.

Instead they want to privatize healthcare and let their business friends extract a profit from us all?

The Sask Party and UCP seem to have a strong preference for funding and supporting divisive religious schools so that the devout can learn about creation instead of evolution?

Science, evidence and a good education take a back seat in many of these schools.

How the hell is Legacy Christian still able to teach kids after their "Legacy" of sexual and physical abuse? Numerous staff have been charged and convicted.

The province lets these private christian schools get away with this with out consequence? Shame!

I have issue with these private types of schools or any for that matter which do not at the very least provide an equivalency that meets provincial standards. As well, indoctrination whether it be the public system and left wing ideology trumping balance or Christian school’s religious ideologies trumping balance as well.

Chuck probably went to, “Bad Boys School”. During my era those schools accepted some of my friends whose parents were trying to protect them from the rest of us. Only thing was that when all the bad boys got mixed together in Muenster, Yorkton, and lots of others, they got ‘real’ influences. Now my grandson tells me that’s the case in Regina too. Things never change much. I guess I just derailed this thread. What was it again? Irrigation or something.

True enough but be fair it can go both ways. The We charity, $600 million media funding etc. I have a real problem with bible thumpers getting po’d and starting a school or even muslims having a separate school as well. Take it further Catholic schools to boot. Kids deserve an education equivalent they can go on to post secondary. Losers who think they can cloister their kids till grade 12 believing any religious nonsense should be ashamed. The certain sects which don’t believe in teaching their kids past grade 8 are about the worst and it’s bordering on cultish.

Beauty of having a well rounded education and informed mindset is you can identify the religious loons and socialist cranks are one and the same. Full of ideology, themselves, and shit.
