?A number of Conservative MPs have written letters to the Liberal housing minister asking him to grant their communities funding from a program that Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre ([url]https://www.theglobeandmail.com/topics/pierre-poilievre/[/url]) this week called disastrous and promised to cancel.

Housing Minister Sean Fraser made the revelation in the House of Commons Tuesday while responding to a question from Poilievre.

“What [Poilievre] doesn’t know is his caucus colleagues have been going behind his back, writing me letters advocating for their communities to receive funding through the housing ([url]https://www.theglobeandmail.com/topics/housing/)accelerator[/url] fund because they believe it will get more homes built,” Fraser said.

“My question for the Conservative members of his caucus, will they have the courage to stand up and tell him he is wrong?”

Fraser said on Wednesday that at least a dozen Conservative MPs have written to his office.

The Canadian Press has reviewed five letters sent between September 2023 and February 2024 by Dan Albas, Michael Cooper, Adam Chambers, Lianne Rood and Rob Moore. The MPs represent ridings in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and New Brunswick.

The letters asked Fraser to approve their communities’ applications to access the housing accelerator fund, a program that invited municipalities to compete for a pool of money based on the ambitiousness of their plans to build more housing.

Poilievre announced on Monday that he would abolish the program and instead use the money to fund his plan to scrap the federal sales tax on new homes sold for less than $1 million.

He attacked the housing accelerator fund during a news conference, calling it a “disastrous program that has led to less homebuilding and more local bureaucracies.”

However, Conservative MPs who sent letters to Fraser suggested the program would help their communities build more housing.

Cooper asked the minister to approve an application from St. Albert, Alta., to build a mixed affordability housing project.

“The requested federal funding is critical to making this needed development a reality – a development that will help address the significant shortage of affordable housing options in the community,” Cooper wrote in his letter, sent in February.

the fact that you believe this is embarassing for them frankly makes me wonder if you can actually critically think...? MP's actually looking out for their constituents, says a lot about you, and the rest of the Liberal teet sucking lefties that think this is a bad thing! The fact that the Libs are criticizing the opposition for not getting things like houses built when they are not in power shows just how absolutely delusional that they are... I am not criticizing the MPs who are trying to help their constituencies.

But PP plans to cut the very programs his MPs are using in their constituencies and replace it with his own single program.

Because the expert economist who said the tax cut is a good idea according to PP, also said the liberal housing programs should not be cut for his tax program. I step foward, 2 steps back! PP is going backwards!

But PP didn't mention that part did he!

Government caused the problem by inflating the economy.

Stifling regulation at every level reduced competition and caused much longer project timelines.

Higher taxation from all levels of government increased costs and left less money to pay mortgages.

Add in high interest rates to increase mortgages by huge percentages .

Out of control immigration.

If not for Chuck and his socialist acolytes freely sharing their propaganda with us, I likely wouldn't have believed that there are people so gullible as to believe that more government is the solution to the problems that more government caused.

Saw a post on Twitter recently someone was upset at the conservative plan to cut civil servant jobs. Because consider the Lost tax revenue from all of the taxes the civil servants pay...

I'm not saying it was Chuck who made that post, but based on his history of being a math denier, I could easily believe it.

Saskatoon's outgoing mayor Charlie Clark says a recent pledge from the federal Conservative Party to cancel the national Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) would put hundreds of already-approved housing units in peril.

Poilievre didn't seem to know his MPs to support their constituencies using the Liberal programs to build more housing.

No province has committed to removing the sales tax on new homes. And Crypto looks like a loser on his housing plan that he wants to download on to provincial budgets.

The proposed tax deductions appear to be a much more visible and efficient reduction in housing costs ?
The Saskatoon mayor talked about loosing subsidies of $20 plus thousand per door whatever that means.
Does the tax deduction work out to more than that Chuck?

The efficiency would come from not loosing a large part of the total funds lining liberal friends pockets.

Much simpler more effective program.
