Latest minister to jump off the good ship Trudeau is Sean Fraser, supposedly an up and coming star in the Liberal party. Going to announce tomorrow. Then we have Minister Freeland’s fall financial update. What will the deficit be? 50 billion, less, more? Trudeau still trying to convince Carney to join cabinet. Trudeau is supposed to do a cabinet shuffle this week, I believe he has 6 ministers to replace. Apparently he has two versions, one with Carney, one without. Can’t really describe this government as any more than a disfunctional joke. Trump and Musk must be laughing!

Hydro-Québec CEO hails Labrador projects as examples of Canada getting stuff done
As domestic governments prepare to rework their economic relationships with U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration, the CEO of Hydro-Québec is pitching last week’s launch of a $33-billion renewable power project as an example of why Canada should be considered a serious business partner.

Last year, Hydro-Québec completed a 1,550-megawatt power facility on the Romaine River – the utility’s largest project in 50 years – for $7.4-billion, 14 per cent less than the initial estimate of the project’s cost.

Global energy investment is set to exceed USD 3 trillion for the first time in 2024, with USD 2 trillion going to clean energy technologies and infrastructure. Investment in clean energy has accelerated since 2020, and spending on renewable power, grids and storage is now higher than total spending on oil, gas, and coal.

As the era of cheap borrowing comes to an end, certain kinds of investment are being held back by higher financing costs. However, the impact on project economics has been partially offset by easing supply chain pressures and falling prices. Solar panel costs have decreased by 30% over the last two years, and prices for minerals and metals crucial for energy transitions have also sharply dropped, especially the metals required for batteries.

Solar, Wind, Biofuels and other renewables worldwide add up to 14 TWh of energy production.
Fossil fuels worldwide add up to 140 TWh of energy production equivalent.

So, we are getting 10 times the energy from fossil fuels for half the investment, or in other words, the "cheapest source of energy" only requires 20 times more investment than fossil fuels.

I can't wait for my energy bill to go down due to additional renewable energy.

As much as I am relieved to see Freeland out of the role of finance minister, for which she was entirely unqualified, I expect her heir will be even less qualified, given how shallow the remaining pool of candidates is.

This band will be best to go into hiding because when the books get opened and the true auditors see where the billions disappeared there may be a riot. What is the true deficit? Who would believe their numbers? Clandestine payments to foreign governments, foreign gender groups?

Energy costs don't have to go down to claim sucess especially when comparing legacy systems that were already paid for to new builds in an inflationary economy that are coping with increasing demand.

BTW Gas and Coal plants only last about 30 years without rebuilds.
