Country comes first': Trudeau, premiers unite against potential U.S. tariffs, while Smith withholds full support

The chair of Canada’s premiers, Doug Ford, said while he respects that Smith must do what she believes is best for her jurisdiction, national interests cannot be ignored.
“Protect your jurisdiction, but country comes first,” he told reporters at the leaders’ closing news conference.

“Canada’s a priority and I don’t believe in jeopardizing one sector or another. Premier Smith’s oil is Ontario’s autos-sector.” He said all regions will be affected if U.S. tariffs come and exempting one region from the country’s counter-measures won’t work.

Don't let Danny Smith negotiate anything because she doesn't understand how to bargain.

Instead she gives Dumpster a win by showing all her cards and saying she wont back using energy to send a message? Huh?

All the other Premiers are on side but she shows naive weakness.

Doug Ford said it. Canada comes first Danny.

Keeping that option shows strength and is a good bargaining chip.

Even if you don't follow through with energy restrictions.

The US trade deficit is primarily because of oil. Take oil out and the US has a trade surplus.

I live in Alberta and im torn between what should be done.
On one hand.. trump is the ultimate loyalist. He craves it.
If scumbag smith wants to bow down to him... then sadly, its probably the right thing to do. Hes a petulant child who holds grudges like no other.

On the other hand I am all for canadian unity and we need to bring this country back together NOW more than ever.

I am, however, undecided on how badly tariffs will hurt albertas economy. I feel like our oil exports are required more by the US than ontarios exports to the US... so maybe we have less to worry about?
                  its hard to say.

                  Even pricing grain ..
Does a guy scramble and book some$ 14 canola for off combine next falll?
what will tarriffs do to our wheat values here?

                  Crapshoot really
                  throw a dart.

Does a guy buy Suncor or any O&G stock now or expect it to take a dip next week?

Canadian O&G stocks are off on tariff threats?

Crude appears to be breaking out from the decline in commodity prices over the last 2+ yrs?

Suffering through PMs voice on tv while eating lunch uptown.
People need to remember Ottawa not a hero for buying an inflated pipeline because they ran off the builders in the first place.
Other comments suggest he thinks he is a hero. Any premier who snubs that pos can't be all wrong.
Trump does worry me as well.
Sorry I didn't move some canola Monday. It could get costly.

Trudeau purchased the TMX to get Alberta oil to other markets. Apparently Danny has forgotten all about Canadian taxpayers paying for it?

Instead she negotiates in the media and gives Trump a win by saying our single biggest export oil can't be used for leverage? It's not her decision anyway.

WTF is wrong with her? If Trump puts a tariff on oil guess what, demand for Alberta oil will probably decline anyway.

Danny looks isolated and weak in her support for Trump and the rest of the Premiers look strong and decisive in their support for Canada.

She is not on Canada's side and she doesn't seem to care if Ontario or the other provinces lose a lot of jobs.

From all appearances Trudeau purchased TMX to prove we can't build major projects in Canada.
No birds nest or tadpoles were harmed on that construction project.
