    Cold … energy

    Windchills of -50c by morning
stay warm and thank Natural gas and fossil fuels for saving lives and keeping furnaces working
No windmills or solar panels will keep homes , hospitals, Long term care homes warm in winter weather like this … ever

The only thing dropping faster than the temperature this evening is wind output. Currently -29C here in west central AB.
Meanwhile wind output has dropped steadily from almost 400 to 280 MW in the past half hour. And dropping like a rock.

But on a positive note, at 10:30 this evening, solar in Alberta was producing 2 MW. I wonder how many flashlights aimed at solar panels it takes to accomplish that?

You forgot to mention that 60% of Canada's renewable electricity already comes from hydro. Running near 100% of the time.

In neighboring Manitoba and BC renewable electricity is indeed keeping many people warm. The same in Quebec, Newfoundland.

But of course the petro heads can only think it's either one or the other. They don't seem to realize you can use multiple sources of generation even though every province and most states do.

Renewables like solar and wind provide significant amounts of electricity and reduce fossil fuel use and emissions in systems that can function well with several sources.

Yesterday I looked at the output on my solar at 1:00pm and it was over 20kw on a sunny cold day.

But the naysayers believe there is no production from November to March because they are always covered in snow! Wrong!

The only thing covered in snow is the flat earthers on agrisilly, who pull a snow job and ignore the other 364 days in the year!

Proving once again you can't fix stupid!

Are people actually arguing over solar and wind not having their "useful" time and place? I think the argument is against solely relying on them in areas that critically need a constant DEPENDABLE base load for the safety of the citizens and businesses and public services. Punishing dependable sources of power generation with onerous laws and taxes is not in the public's best interest. I think some of the public need a dose of reality and have their petro/hydrocarbon based heat and power turned off when it matters most! We've had it too good too long and commonsense simple things are being taken for granted.

The only junk is your uninformed stupid ideas Crop!

Republican North Dakota and Texas apparently rely on a lot of "junk" for 25-35% of their electricity!

            Go back to sleep!

Exactly, solar and windmills have there place in certain climates .
But the mindless bashing of “fossil fuels” in this part of the world is plain stupidity

                  Yawn....
Not much hydro in Texas, ND or AB, SK. Thank God they own lots coal for consistent base load. That probably won't change for a long time.

Hydro doesn't work during dry spells either. AB biggest hydro facility, Brazeau, just idles along most of the time so it is not that reliable either. There was a proposal to pump water there but I don't think anything came of that. Coal is still the most reliable, followed by NG.

Renewables are a growing share of the worlds electricity.

Get your heads out of the sand!
