Middle of the pack. We get trampled. My lobby today.

I sent this to a list of ag associations and media.

The above MNP study by Dalhousie University has us in the middle of a rapidly advancing pack. We have to be in the lead to be relevant!

Saskatchewan is home to the most sustainable farmers in the world. We can supply branded high-quality trusted ingredients. Our goal should be to lead the pack with branded best quality ingredients from bulk to bars.

We can be the best!
But certainly not with this report card.

Past behavior will predict future decline.

We need a reset. We can start in Saskatchewan and then go Federal when the window or opportunity opens.

My PowerPoint, essentially asks us to realize what has to be done and begin.

The path to 25 billion.pptx

Middle of the pack, a long way from markets, unreliable logistics, we are going to get trampled unless we pull up.

Best wishes in the urgent process of making plans for the future.

All is not well across the spectrum.

I vividly recall when interest rates soared to 20%. During that challenging period, Alberta stepped up by offering long-term low-interest loans at just 6% for corporations and individual farmers. These were substantial 20-year loans that provided much-needed stability. Meanwhile, Saskatchewan did not extend similar support, and as a result, we were left to bear the burden of the full 20%.
A cost that broke many.

Consequently, Saskatchewan faced a wave of insolvencies that devastated many, making exits painful and leading to expensive debt restructuring. On the other hand, Alberta farmers, who had the protection of those low-interest loans, were able to navigate the crisis far more successfully.

This highlights in hindsight the impact of policy is important and how it influences how the industry adjusts.

The NDP at the time offered the land bank. The farmer could sell the land to the government and buy it back from the government over time. I am not sure how many farms used this option.

Ukraine establishes contacts with Egypt's leading state food buyer -
Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval held a meeting with the head of the Sustainable Development Agency Mustaqbal Misr (Future of Egypt) Bagaa Al-Ghannam as part of his working trip to Cairo, the ministry's press service reported. “Mustaqbal Misr is Egypt's largest government agency, which is responsible for purchasing food and other strategic goods. For example, as of December 2024, the agency has secured contracts to supply the country with about 1.267 mln tonnes of wheat,” Koval noted. During the meeting, the parties discussed building long-term economic relations between Ukraine and Egypt, namely: increase in exports of Ukrainian products; expansion of sales nomenclature. The Egyptian side is interested not only in grain, but also in goods with deep processing;
• creation of Ukrainian food hub on the territory of Egypt;
• optimization of financial mechanisms, possibility to reduce deferred payments to Ukrainian exporters;
• formation of a working group between Ukraine and Egypt, which should become an effective platform for prompt resolution of trade and administrative issues and elimination of “bottlenecks” that hinder trade.

Members of the Ukrainian delegation also visited agricultural lands, livestock enterprises and industrial zones. Egypt is actively introducing the latest agro-technologies, and in this context Ukrainian experience and products can become the basis for the development of their agro-sector. “Also invited representatives of Mustaqbal Misr to Kyiv together with Egyptian business and their associations, which will allow to get closer acquainted with Ukrainian opportunities and find new ways of cooperation,” the Minister added .(APK)

After Grant Devine wrestled power away from the NDP in 1984 he had a low interest program for farmers.
The NDP had the land bank where you sold your land to the government and then rented it back. In most cases the land bank was a disaster for farmers.

i think the world looks at Canada in general and holds its nose. Our commodities once held in high esteem are painted with the same brush. Its sad but times will change and Canada may bounce back after we, “ Drain the Swamp”.

Draining the swamp could have happened if the NDP had supported one of the three non confidence votes from September to December. Indeed the NDP still hold the key to being able to have a PMO that is elected by the people. Most expect they will support Carney and we will have this dysfunctional Parliament until 2026. Very disturbing times.

Canuckistan has long been a global laughingstock. The only time we are regarded about anything is when somebody is looking to score free stuff. Briefly during the Harper years, there were times when canuckistan was taken seriously. The only opportunity I see in ag at the moment is a small rebuild in the cow herd. Export grains are dead as the world is now full of broke people. Make summer fallow great again.

We can try to continue to wake people up:
Do Sign the Petition

https://www.jccf.ca/petitions/

Our Parliament should not be prorogued without reasonable justification.

In these uncertain times, our elected representatives must be able to make decisions for the good of the country.

Parliament is the voice of Canadians. Parliament is a necessary check on government overreach.

Parliament should never be shut down to serve the interests of any one political party, or to shield a government from democratic accountability.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Prime Minister of Canada to reverse the prorogation and re-open Parliament immediately.
