Some guys who live here have/had pipeline jobs in Alberta. They worked themselves into higher paid positions and they're ambitious.
They were grossing something like $8-900/day, one guy said at times $5000 per week with all the extra pay for being away from home. That same guy said he paid over $90K in income tax that year.
Where's the incentive? To work those long consecutive days and be in charge of a job spread and its work crew and paperwork?

So he did all that to give a huge chunk away to taxes. Add in all the hidden and in your face tax everyone else also pays. He said it "wasn't worth it".... what an effed-up system.

Farmaholic, what you just described is a great argument for replacing the current punitive income tax with an external revenue service/tariffs as Trump is proposing.

You literally couldn't design a worse system to disincentivize hard work than a progressive income tax.

        Here is another Lutnick interview.
In depth explanation of the history of tariffs, and how it will play out.
Interview by people who understand economics.

        I highly recommend watching.

Pretty painful... me I me I me I.... for the first how long. Full of himself.
Typical loud mouthed obnoxious dick, the type of guys(him and Trump) you'd like to punch in the mouth rather than have a drink with. I'm probably biased and jaded
I only heard him mention Canada once, claiming the auto manufacturers moved some production to Canada to break the unions.... are there sectors of the Canadian Auto manufacturing that aren't unionized? A meaningful amount.

Ironically, I don't think I heard the word "CHINA" once, maybe I just missed it.

Agree about the tone and the attitude.

Based on Canada's experience the past 9 years, I don't think likeability should be one of the top qualities we look for in the businessmen we hire to manage the biggest budget in the world.

If I were an American, I would be highly motivated after hearing that interview.

As a citizen of any other country, prospects aren't good.

The media makes it look like Trump is a loose cannon without any master plan. Listening to Lutenick reassures me that there is a master plan and that there are some brilliant people behind it.

Too bad Canada has just committed to go in the opposite direction.

You think sputnik is brilliant? What planet are you on? Did you not hear him talk about cutting off social security to find out who is not eligible?

How would you go about finding out where the fraud is?

Do you think using silly nicknames for politicians make sure arguments sound more intelligent and mature?

Or do they make you sound like chuck?

                  You mean Lutnick?
...or Nutlick in relation(s to)with Trump.

You know it's not that I disagree with EVERYTHING the Republicans are trying to accomplish but some of those characters have the personality/charisma of 40 grit sandpaper.

Boy has this thread gone off the rails, can we tie intergenerational trauma into the last few posts?

                  Oh-oh on the name calling.
I guess that calls me out too.
                  No apologies...

                    ...
And who would you rather have negotiating on your behalf? Someone with the charisma of 40 grit sandpaper, or "sunny ways"?

Politics shouldn't be a popularity contest. Shouldn't it be competency contest?

Absolutely. But no matter how you look at this, even if we had an angle grinder personality negotiating on Canada's behalf... I feel we are basically powerless. I think if they don't get what they want, they can almost economically starve us out. And if we don't drop to our knees, they'll simply take what they want and whose going to stop them?
